Over six years, the company constantly upgraded and modified its streetlight solutions to meet the specific needs of the diverse regions where they are deployed. What began as a simple mission to provide safe road lighting in Africa and Asia with a standard unit has evolved into a commitment to delivering more advanced, durable, and efficient lighting solutions. As the company prepares to launch its latest light unit—a unique product shaped entirely by customer input—it’s evident that customer-centric innovation is at the core of UK SOLAR POWER’s success. “Over the years, our solar light has evolved from a standard unit used in countries across Africa and Asia into a solution for safe road lighting,” says Victoria Taylor, Global Sales Director at UK SOLAR POWER. Adapting to Local Challenges UK SOLAR POWER actively seeks input from clients to improve its solar streetlights. Initial feedback is notable, with customers acknowledging the lights’ effectiveness; however, the team conducts a detailed analysis to uncover additional insights. In Vietnam, a country known for its heavy rainfall, customers emphasized the importance of additional waterproof protection to enhance durability. In response, the company’s R&D team redesigned the unit, incorporating a double barrier to shield it from water damage, significantly extending its lifespan and reliability in wet conditions. Conversely, the desert regions of the Middle East, such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq, exhibit a high demand for road lighting. The primary challenge in these regions is the excessive intensity of sunlight, which can hinder the optimal performance of solar units. In addition, the accumulation of sand and dust strains the units, impacting their efficiency. To address this, UK SOLAR POWER re-engineered its product to cope with harsh conditions by incorporating sand protection, built-in filters, and dust settlement solutions. It also integrated advanced technology from Korea that provides double protection against sand and dust while filtering out elements that could disrupt the system’s efficiency.
