In 2021, the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) voted to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2030, cut global greenhouse gas emissions by 45 percent by 2030, and to zero by 2050. Countries around the world signed commitments to limit global warming; one of the main ways is through expanding the use of clean energy and promoting resource sustainability. To create an energy-resilient and energy-efficient economy, countries must address natural resource issues at the heart of global energy security.

Against this backdrop, Energy and Security Group (ESG) plays a pivotal role in assisting clients address critical energy and natural resource problems at the nexus of national and international energy security interests. ESG is a small, professional services company serving the U.S. government, international development agency, and private clients in the U.S. and overseas.

Having been involved in over 200 energy projects worldwide, the ESG team is adept in renewable energy project development and finance, transmission & distribution planning and operations, energy and water benchmarking, program implementation, operations research analysis, logistics supply chain modeling, economic and financial analysis, decision support tool development, and much more. To help promote clean energy, ESG supports its partners and clients with clean energy procurement, with renewable energy and energy efficient technologies, and the establishment of clean energy generation plants.

ESG acknowledges that one size cannot fit all clients. It provides tailor-made solutions to every sector. While working with government sectors, ESG helps them strategize roadmaps, create new policies, and modify existing regulations for implementing clean energy. For instance, a client based in Africa approached ESG to help them with the underutilization of a clean energy project. ESG worked with the client to understand their business model and customer base. The company also interacted with private businesses in the region to understand their issues and helped them realize the benefits of clean energy.

In a partnership with the federal ENERGY STAR program, ESG helps small businesses dramatically improve their energy efficiency. Supported by ENERGY STAR, the company works to spread awareness, provide energy benchmarking and training, and develop guides and materials customized for small businesses. This initiative has helped organizations reduce their energy use and divert the savings into achieving their missions.
