Renewable energy has numerous benefits resulting in reduced greenhouse gas emissions and jobs among local communities.
FREMONT, CA: Renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar photovoltaic grew faster than in previous decades, and electric vehicle sales soared. Renewable energy has gained market share rapidly due to technological advancements, making them much more economical. The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates renewable energy will be the primary source of electricity worldwide in 2025.
Climate change is halted by limiting global temperature and implementing renewable energy sources. There are, however, other benefits to renewable energy. The use of renewable energy sources reduces greenhouse gas emissions, especially CO2. Renewable energy reduces the need to import other energy sources. Renewable energy, such as solar, wind, and water, meet the country's energy needs.
Local economies benefit greatly from renewable energies. According to International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), a renewable energy investment generates 2-5 dollars in benefits. It is estimated that the new energy sector will create 122 million jobs by 2050. Training for these new jobs would be relatively easy. A recent UN statement by Antonio Guterres urged banks and investment funds to help Latin America and the Caribbean transition to a renewable energy system, enabling them to adapt and become more resilient while helping workers in polluting industries find decent alternatives.
The success of various projects depends on many factors. The Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge has conducted important studies, such as Environmental Zoning for Renewable Energy Installations. Installing renewable energy systems in local communities generates countless benefits beyond being clean, inexhaustible, and increasingly competitive energy sources.
Investing in renewable energy means creating jobs in local communities, improving the lives of local, often rural, populations, settling people in these areas, and contributing to regional cohesion. Agricultural and livestock methods are compatible with wind farms. Hence, solar plants, which occupy more surface area, are often built on less fertile land, lakes, or reservoirs if necessary, preventing water from evaporating. The use of renewable energy at the local level eliminates dependency on distant energy sources. Consequently, energy consumption and transmission losses are reduced. Renewable contributes to developing locally relevant research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) potential by promoting specific projects adapted to local energy needs.
