A large number of countries around the world are turning to renewable energies to slow climate change, generate value locally, protect the environment, and drive sustainable development.
FREMONT, CA: World energy is undergoing a complete transformation. Transitioning away from fossil fuels is well underway, putting an end to fossil fuel use for good. While renewable energies appear to be beneficial on a global and local scale, they do not convince everyone. Locally, they are creating a sense of community, creating jobs, positively impacting the environment, and doing much more.
Renewable energies are growing at an exponential rate
The COVID-19 pandemic plunged economies in 2020, but renewable energy sources like wind power and solar photovoltaic were growing faster than ever, and electric vehicle sales were at record highs. Renewable energy has gained market share rapidly due to technological advancements, which are much more efficient and economical from a production standpoint. Our efforts to limit global temperature rises and halt climate change have been made possible by the speedy development and installation of renewable energies. There are many other benefits to renewable energy as well:
Climate benefits: CO2 emissions are reduced efficiently with clean energy sources such as renewables. The use of renewable energy also reduces dependence on imported energy sources. Solar, wind or water energy can meet all a country's energy needs.
Economic benefits: The climate isn't the only beneficiary. Energy from renewable sources boosts local economies. According to IRENA, the energy transition generates 2 to 5 dollars in benefits for every dollar invested.
Local benefits of renewable energy: It is clear that renewable technologies are essential to achieving a sustainable energy model since they are inexhaustible, adaptable to natural cycles, free of greenhouse gases, evenly distributed, and will guarantee human wellbeing, progress, and development without compromising the planet. Over the last centuries, fossil fuels have dominated the energy system. The energy transition requires the massive installation of renewable facilities. It's critical to implement this program balance, minimizing adverse effects and maximizing benefits to help repair the damage.
Local communities benefit from renewable energies as well as the planet. In the wake of COVID-19, renewables are becoming a key driver of economic, social, and environmental recovery. Transparency, cooperation, and involvement of communities on the ground are crucial to growth in harmony with local concerns.
