Technology advancements have made wind power a more widely used renewable energy source worldwide.
FREMONT, CA: Renewable energy is being scaled up worldwide to replace polluting fossil fuels. Wind energy is among the most popular renewable energy sources in the world, and with the continual development of technology, this energy source continues to increase. From sailors going across the sea on windmills to farmers grinding grains and pumping water, the wind has served as a power source for humans. It is now possible to erect smaller wind turbines in a backyard and power a single home or business. In contrast, large-scale wind farms can generate enough power to supply the country with electricity.
Wind power never runs out
Unlike fossil fuels, wind power converts a natural resource directly into electricity without the need for fuel to power the turbines. It can mitigate the devastating effects of global warming; governments worldwide are now investing in renewables more than ever to mitigate the devastating effects of global warming. As a result of the massive role renewables can play in the race to reach net-zero emissions by the middle of the century.
Greenhouse gas emissions are zero from wind power
Renewable energy is also significantly less polluting than coal, oil, and natural gas. Renewable energy sources are clean, unlike fossil fuels which emit greenhouse gases that warm the planet. The fact that turbines do not need fossil fuels to operate allows them to produce energy with less impact on the environment by reducing the use of fossil fuels. Indirect emissions are only generated during the manufacturing and transportation processes and installation of wind turbines. Some greenhouse gases are produced by materials that manufacture turbines, such as steel, concrete, fiberglass, and copper. Despite this, wind remains a great alternative to fossil fuels.
Cheaper wind power
It's no secret that wind turbines are expensive upfront, but they are still some of the most cost-effective sources of electricity. Once the system is erected, its operational costs are almost nonexistent. They are also rarely maintained due to advances in technology and design. Renewable energy sources such as onshore wind are cheap. On the other hand, the offshore industry is more costly and challenging to maintain. Nevertheless, it remains a more convenient option since it produces more electricity with fewer turbines than onshore.
