Ward earned his degree in Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 1991. He then graduated as a Major Project Leader from the BP Projects Academy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Upon completing the program, Ward began his professional journey as an engineering manager at BP. There, he was responsible for the entire design process, led the owner’s engineering team, and directed engineering designs by contractors.
