A company that takes a leap in this regard is German Sustainables.
German Sustainables was established to promote a new technology, which had been researched and designed over the past eleven years by Claus Colling (retired Flight Captain) and Prof. Dr. Ing. Kassera. Since 2018, the efforts have been supported by means of investments through Mr. Johann Bachner, entrepreneur and CEO of Bachner Elektro Gmbh & Co. KG, located in Mainburg/ Upper Bavaria.
“Together, we would like to contribute in overcoming energy-related problems, without any undue burden on nature and mankind for all global regions, even where energy production was hitherto expensive or simply uneconomical,” says Mr. Claus Colling, the CTO of German Sustainables. “Our well proven German Engineering has led us to optimize vertical axis wind turbine technology to its third generation, GS-1000NT (NT = New Technology).”
Utilizing Patented Cutting-Edge Technologies
GS-1000NT has been scientifically developed to fill existing and emerging gaps in global demands for clean energy. It can be packed in 40 ft containers and erected anywhere. Almost more than 95 percent of the turbine may be recycled, no propeller blades to be buried, and none of the movable foundations to be left in the ground. The new turbine is harmless to flying wildlife, extremely quiet, and blends into the surroundings by color-matching all visible components.
German Sustainables utilizes patented cutting-edge technologies, such as aerodynamic spoiler control and a hydrostatic drive to make GS-1000NT more reliable and ensure minimal expenses for maintenance.
“While the spoiler control system was included (and patented) into the design from day one, German Sustainables analyzed the technical shortcomings of the established designs,” says Mr. Colling.
Furthermore, amassing all systems on the top of the towers did not seem to be an ideal solution either. German Sustainables made the radical move toward the hydrostatic drive, which has many advantages and enables them to have most components easily accessible at ground level.
Utilizing Well Proven Components
German Sustainables’ services are not focused on supplying its technology to set up large wind farms but on offering solutions for stand-alone applications (island solutions or enhancing power supply for industrial complexes) and re-densification of existing wind farms. It combines many advantages, such as minimal use of land areas, lower overall height, high static and dynamic stability, minimum transport expenses, low maintenance cost, and high efficiency. German Sustainables’ technology is well suited for extreme climatic and geological challenges.
The GS-1000NT was thoughtfully designed to tackle challenges in “Third World” environments, which does not preclude their use in highly developed countries. The turbine’s low overall height allows German Sustainables to undercut the (seemingly) never-ending permit processes for wind turbines in Germany and similar countries as it is recognized as an industrial building.
German Sustainables’ technology utilizes well-proven components. For example, the large hydraulic pump has been used on open-mine diggers since decades, the generators are off-the-shelf units, and most all other components are housed in a ground level 40 ft. container–temperature controlled, sealed against intruders, wildlife, dust and moisture. Besides of the aluminum propulsion wings, which are impervious to the sun’s UV rays, the lattice tower’s footprint is laid out to withstand seismic activity. Aerodynamic speed control by means of spoilers is the ultimate solution to protect the turbine and allow for an optimized energy harvest.

Streamlining the Manufacturing Processes
Recently, German Sustainables has taken a big step forward with the implementation of the first production site for the Propulsion Wings of the GS-1000NT. The new company headquarters are located in the town of Stralsund, in northeast Mecklenburg Vorpommern. The Stralsund city council offered large manufacturing hangars for immediate occupancy. A 20 year lease was signed for these in turn. These hangars, being highly suitable for the production processes in terms of dimensions and structures offer sufficient space for future development, as well as representative administration offices and allow the company to immediately resume operations.
“We like to stress the fact that we are not striving to meet the markets in competition to the established technologies or manufacturers. German Sustainables is clearly occupying a market segment which, by constraints of the classic wind turbine technology, can only be developed by GS-1000NT advantages. In that we are offering supplementary solutions to the global wind industry’s applications,” states Mr. Colling.
German Sustainables is currently busy designing the main-wing spars to be extruded rather than assembled from a variety of single components. This speeds up manufacturing and creates less cost. Also, on the wing-tip design, it is making scientific progress and looking for a two-digit increase in its performance. Using the propulsion wings as a marketing tool for advertising, even with ultra-thin LED screen film for night advertising, is under test in its lab.
German Sustainables’ current objective is to commence production of the aluminum propulsion wings in the Stralsund facility, and its impetus is backed by more than 800 conditioned orders.
